The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRA) was established as a specialised task force to reclaim illegally occupied lake beds, buffer zones, and government land across the capital region.
In its first phase of operations, HYDRA cleared over 500 major encroachments — including high-rise buildings, commercial complexes, and unauthorised colonies — that had choked the city's natural drainage.
The agency operates with judicial backing and satellite mapping, ensuring every demolition is backed by land records and environmental impact assessments.
Beyond demolitions, HYDRA is restoring over 2,000 acres of lake bed and urban forest, recharging groundwater and reducing Hyderabad's vulnerability to flash floods.
